Gun Control- Means .....

OK, I don’t usually post stuff like this, but after I read it, I thought: “What better way to explain why our gun control laws in California are not working. I support the Second Amendment and I think all honest, law abiding, trained citizens should be able to carry a concealed weapon if they so wish. This was e-mailed to me, so I’m not sure if it’s true, but it’s funny as hell!  Please leave a comment on what you think about CCW permits for citizens.

AN ACTUAL CRAIG'S LIST PERSONALS AD

To the Guy Who Tried to Mug Me in Downtown Savannah night before last.

Date: 2009-05-27, 1 :43 a.m. E.S.T.

I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend, threatening our lives. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message.

First, I'd like to apologize for your embarrassment; I didn't expect you to actually crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket.. The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason.. My girlfriend had just bought me that Kimber Model 1911 ..45 ACP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head ... isn't it?!

I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with that brown sludge in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse walking bare-footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again].

After I called your mother or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas station, -- on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 150 gallons and was extremely grateful!

I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!]

I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb ... after I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car.

Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. Ma Bell just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what 's going on with that? Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target.

The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.).

;In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you ... but I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've chosen to pursue in life. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky. Have a good day!

Thoughtfully yours,

Alex

I am all for the second amendment. But I also believe that every carrying permit must be give only to those who have gone through an intense gun control training class.

That would be a good business for you to start when (and if) you ever retire from the force.

1. Cute article.
2. My state doesn't observe castle doctrine.
3. If you have an avenue of escape,
you have to use it.
4. Know several high ranking local officers. A Magistrate keeps her horse where I keep mine.
5. They all say do everything you can to avoid use of deadly force.
6. The local grand juries are very hard on white males that fall into their clutches.
7. If you do employ deadly force, plan on spending thousands of dollars for bail and legal fees in the ensuing criminal and civil proceedings.
8. That's assuming you manage to get the weapon out and use it.
9. The first time I was in a firefight, my sergeant had to whack me on the helmet and yell at me to go to work. I was literally standing there with my mouth open, not believing I was being shot at.
10. Have seen the same thing often.
Wasn't especially stupid -just average so.
11. Point being, walking around with a concealed weapon isn't a complete solution to the issue of personal security.
12. OTOH, if you have to be in a hazardous area, going armed may be a sensible precaution.
13. Try to stay mainline white bread these days, for reasons of comfort as much as security.

In the UK even Mace or OC spray is classed as a prohibited weapon and is illegal to import or possess. However,You can buy it in a hardwear store in any French town .

Brother has a conceal & carry permit here in CA - Yuba County. He is trained but I really wonder. I would need much training to trust myself to not be disarmed - small, female and oldish - not to mention that I have never been in danger in 62 years of life. I have a loaded double barrel under my bed but that's it. Son is a black belt kung fu - would love to take someone out but no one messes with him - he has "aura". Since I have lived in this little town there have been at least 2 suicide by cop of people I knew - really bad for the cops. They don't like to kill people - even those pointing guns at them. Of course I know the cops too - it doesn't thrill them at all no matter what press or opinion may think. They were ruled justified but still didn't want to kill a person who needed help. This is a small community and the cops live here too - gang bangers are a different story - but they too have families who are part of the community with kids gone bad. We don't have the street hold ups like big cities - just bangers and drug shit. Thank you for the work you do and I have always thought that if citizens were trained from school to handle firearms and eveyone who wanted to be armed could be, crime would go waaay down. Think twice if your head might get blown off. But this is the state of fruits and nuts so I doubt it will happen. Meanwhile permits can be obtained - so get one of you want. Just be careful of how it is used because juries are made up of different people with differing opinions. Have you run across "Straight forward in a crooked world"? He is a (I think former military) security specialist who writes about guns and self defense in this world. He has some terrific posts - doesn't write frequently but his archive is full of dealing with the mass shooter, house enounter and all kinds of stuff for the citizen and how to prepare for your defense because you WILL have to defend youself twice - the attacker and the system and maybe 3 times when friends turn against you. I wish I could put in links - if you find it of interest maybe you can add it. Glad you are still writing - I love your blog.

My first response was too long. If you are well trained get a permit. Be prepared to defend yourself twice - the attacker and the court. Read "Strait Forward in a Crooked World". I don't know how to do links, but he has great stuff about self defense and court defense. Doesn't post often enough but read the archives - they are worth it. Not for you CI but for your readers. For you - keep writing. love

Hahaha! That was great!

I have a CCW card. The law was about to change,so I didn't have to take the course, but wanted to. In the "video" shooting test, a few of the well trained young guys barely passed. They had trouble holding their fire and waiting for a clear shot. ...some were war vets, though. Harder for them to revert back to civilian rules, maybe.

I grew up shootin toy guns and bb guns with my brothers...and later shotguns and rifles. (I think that's him in the Youtube. or is that you RD?) hehe.

I was the only female in the class...but noticed the older gents had a good dose of common sense. A vital factor in gun safety..

The instructor was a retired Army dude. He was up on the law as well..gave us good info and govt links to keep ourselves informed.

RD, I would sign up for your classes. YOU'd be awesome...

AND you need to write a book!
I bet all your followers would agree...

CP, Yes CCWs are good..but only if the person has been properly trained. I don't know how many soldiers, cops and citizens I've had at the range who thought they were great with firearms....and they learned what they didn't know.

Mr West, I bet when checked, those states that restrict guns, have those in high places that are armed...when questioned...they really don't think the masses should have guns...only those in power and with money.

HD, Soon the UK will outlaw criket sticks. I know when they banned bayonet lugs on rifles here...our driveby bayonetting went way down.

Lor, CCW permits are easier to get in the rural Calif places...but the closer you get to the big cities, the dumber the police chiefs get.
My next story will mention "suicide by cop" stand by for it.

Wrx, I'm sure you're a good shot to.

1. Agree.
2. Some animals are more equal than others.
3. My state does issue concealed handgun permits. Better not use or brandish your weapon, tho.
4. The aforementioned magistrate was allowed to carry a concealed weapon. She did for awhile, then gave it up because of the hassle involved.
5. Several police officers in our neighboring, super-liberal, state have also gone the criminal and then civil proceedings route, incurring professional, personal and financial ruination along the way.
6. Their union and the FOP did what? That has to affect their brother officers when facing a situation where use of deadly force may be necessary.
